Jean-François Mincet is an accomplished artist, born in Paris in 1954. His works cover a wide array of subjects such as portraits, figures, surrealist compositions, landscapes or still life, either in watercolor or oil.
His works have been exhibited in Paris, Antibes, Nice, Cannes, Monaco, Geneva, Boston, Ottawa, and most recently Victoria. He has been the recipient of several awards, including a Public Prize at the International Art Competition in Monaco, a Public Prize at the Café de la Paix in Paris, a first prize in oil painting and second prize in watercolor at the ArtEast exhibition in Ottawa. His pieces have been acquired by collectors in Europe and America.
He has also received many commissions ranging from portraits to murals. He has been praised for his exceptional ability to capture the soul of his subjects. His mural works decorate the wing of the Deux Fontaines of the prestigious five star “Hôtel du cap-Eden-Roc” in the French Riviera. These murals are in a style similar to that of the Italian artwork he once restored there in the Bellini bar: http://www.hotel-du- cap-eden-roc.com/uk/esprit-et-service.php#le-bar-bellini.php
Jean-François’s artistic career began in 1972 with the illustration of precious art books. First he redid the illustrations for “Le Petit Prince”; he then created illustrations in a classical miniature style for 11th to 13th century Persian and French poetry books commissioned by renowned Parisian art publishers. These precious books were a resounding success with collectors in recognition of his outstanding talent.
His foremost passion, painting, developed at a very young age. As a child, Jean-François used to spend countless hours in the Louvre Museum; later on he had the good fortune to be coached by a restorer at the Louvre and to gain mastery through the study of techniques and works of the Great Masters, especially those of Johannes Vermeer. His copies of the great Dutch Master’s paintings are stunningly faithful to the originals; several pieces are with American collectors.
